MSOE and Marian are now tied for the sixth and final NACC Tournament place with one day of the regular season left. The Raiders host Dominican Saturday at noon, while the Sabres head to Rockford. The Red and White holds the tiebreaker by virtue of regular season victories over Aurora and, if it comes to it, Wisconsin Lutheran.
Sophomore Katie Ready was a catalyst in the MSOE victory, pounding out three hits and scoring a pair of runs. She was on third base in the first inning when sophomore Lauren Boyle scored her with an infield single. In the third inning, she made it 2-0 when she scored on a wild pitch.
Marian pulled a run back in the fourth, but the Raiders scored two more times for insurance in the sixth inning. Unfortunately for the home team, another wild pitch was what plated both MSOE runs in that frame.
Freshman Sara McConnell got the win with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. She allowed two hits and a walk. Freshman Shannon Curtis got the start and threw 3.2 innings, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out one.
McConnell also started game one in a return to the circle after missing 10 games while under the weather. She went the distance, striking out seven and walking one in 7.1 innings.
The Sabres allowed just one hit, but still trailed 1-0 entering their final at-bat. They tied the game on a one-out single. Then, they won in walk-off fashion with a single through the right side scoring a run.
Ready drove in MSOE's run in the sixth inning, pushing home freshman Melissa Mahoney on a squeeze bunt.
