Raiders Fall to CUW on Walk-Off Single

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Senior Julie Windish hit two go-ahead home runs for the MSOE softball team, but Katie Landherr hit a walk-off single up the middle with an out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Concordia Wisconsin to a 7-6 win Friday afternoon in the NACC Tournament at Alverno Field.

The No. 6 Raiders (24-18) saw their season come to an end, while the fifth-seeded Falcons (21-18) advance in the tournament to face No 2 Wisconsin Lutheran in the second game.

Windish's hit her second home run of the game to lead off the ninth inning and give MSOE the 6-5 lead.

CUW responded by loading the bases in the bottom half of the frame with just one out. The Falcons tied the game on dropped throw at the plate on a throw home. Landherr then followed with a single up the middle to advance her team in the tournament.

Concordia scored first with a single run in the first inning, but the Raiders countered in the third inning to tie the game. Sophomore Lauren Boyle hit a two-out double and freshman Kailey Smith followed with a triple to the right field corner.

Mariah Giesseman hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give CUW the 3-1 lead, but MSOE wasted little time overtaking its opponent. The Raiders capitalized on two errors to even the game at 3-3. Windish then stepped to the plate and drilled a home run to right center field to make it 5-3.

MSOE was one out from advancing with two outs in the seventh innings, but Alyssa Robison and Carly Sobrilsky hit back-to-back home runs to force extra innings.

Freshmen Shannon Curtis (8-9) and Sara McConnell each pitched in the game. Curtis got the start and finished the game in the circle. She threw 3.1 innings, allowing four hits and six walks, while striking out two. McConnell pitched in relief, throwing five innings. She allowed seven hits and four earned runs.
