Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Junior Austin Stueck hit the decisive three-pointer in the final minute of overtime to send the MSOE men's basketball team to a 70-69 victory over Edgewood Tuesday evening at the Edgedome.
The Raiders (10-9, 7-7 NACC) saw the Eagles (8-11, 7-7 NACC) force overtime with a basket in the final seconds of overtime, but closed the game on an 8-2 run to secure the victory.
MSOE had four players score in double-figures, led by senior Nathan Verdun's 16 points. Stueck finished with 15 points, sophomore Collin Seubert scored 11 and senior Jeremiah Erdmann finished with 10.
Trevor Neale and Tal Diekvoss scored a game-high 21 points apiece for Edgewood. Dylan Rusch added 14.
There were nine lead changes and four ties during regulation, but the first 40 minutes came down to a Rusch layup with 1.5 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Raiders had pulled ahead 62-60 on a putback by junior Steve Morel with 2:07 remaining.
The score remained that way until the final minute. Stueck pulled down a defensive rebound with 51 seconds remaining and the Raiders held for one shot. After a miss, EC got the rebound with 17.7 seconds to go and called a timeout to set up Rusch's basket.
In overtime, the home team scored the first five points, but the Red & White answered back with five points of its own. The Eagles pulled ahead 69-67, but Stueck's three with 44.7 seconds remaining proved to be the difference.
Edgewood had two tries at the game-winner. The Eagles missed a jumper in the paint and were forced into a turnover at the buzzer to end the game.
The Raiders shot 45.5 percent from the field for the game and committed 13 turnovers. They also crashed the boards with a 47-31 rebounding edge, leading to 22 second-chance points. EC shot 426 percent and had just nine turnovers.
MSOE led by as many as eight in the first half and took a 38-33 lead into halftime.
The Raiders return to action Saturday, hosting Rockford.
