Box Score MILWAUKEE - Junior Connor Patterson had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to an 89-81 win over Rockford Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (11-9, 8-7 NACC) scored 53 points in the second half to overtake the Regents (6-15, 5-11 NACC) and their four-point halftime lead.
In addition to Patterson's big night, MSOE also had double-digit scorers in senior Nathan Verdun, with 19 points, and junior Austin Stueck, with 17. Stueck added eight rebounds and seven assists for a well-rounded afternoon.
Ross Arteaga matched Patterson's scoring output for Rockford with 24 points, while Trae Blumhorst chipped in 20 points off the bench. Zach Wallace posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.
It was a back-and-forth game from the beginning, with the Red & White playing from behind for much of the second half. The Raiders unable to put together a truly back-breaking run to overtake the Regents, but seized the lead for good with a 12-4 spurt, turning a 56-55 deficit into a 67-60 lead with just over nine minutes remaining.
Patterson had five points in that run and Verdun hit back-to-back three-pointers to lead the way.
Rockford would pull within three, but MSOE made its last five free throws to seak the game.
The Raiders shot 50.9 percent from the field in the game, burying 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. Rockford shot 45.2 percent and hit on 7-of-21 three-point tries.
MSOE returns to the court Wednesday at Marian.
