Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball team rattled off a 19-0 run in the first half and never trailed in rolling past Maranatha 84-49 Thursday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (4-4) forced 28 turnovers with 19 steals in building their lead as high as 39 points to rout the Sabercats (4-5).
Senior Austin Stueck finished with 17 points, eight assists, four steals and seven rebounds in the game. Senior Connor Patterson scored a game-high 18 points and junior Collin Seubert scored 17. Both Patterson and Seubert were an efficient 7-of-9 from the field.
James Coats and Micah Shepard each registered in double-figures off the bench for Maranatha. Coats scored a team-best 11 points and Sheperd tallied 11.
MSOE broke open a close game in the first half by holding MBU without a point for over seven minutes during a 19-0 run in the first half. The Sabercats had pulled within 10-8 at the 12:18 mark of the frame, but the Raiders controlled both ends of the court to open a 29-8 lead on a Stueck layup. The visitors would not score their next points until 5:15.
The Red & White went 7-of-10 from the field over that stretch, while Maranatha missed eight-straight shots and committed three turnovers.
The Raiders never looked back, leading 37-18 at halftime. In the second half, the score would get no closer. MSOE's advantage peaked at 39 when freshman Ben Volkmann made a pair of free throws to make it 84-45 with 49 seconds remaining.
The offense was fairly efficient for the Raiders, as they shot 46.9 percent for the game with just 12 turnovers. They limited the visitors to just 31.4 percent shooting in the game. Thirteen different players registered steals for the Red & White as 16 different players saw the floor in the game.
The Raiders continue a five-game homestand Dec. 30, hosting Illinois Wesleyan.
