Raiders Knock Off Illinois Wesleyan 89-69

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Max Wojcik scored a game-high 23 points to lead four players in double-figures as the MSOE men's basketball team knocked off Illinois Wesleyan 89-69 Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (5-4) built a 13-point halftime lead and led by as many as 25 in the second half to get past the Titans (6-5) and win their third-straight game.

Wojcik was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field off the bench, knocking down three 3-pointers in the game. Senior Austin Stueck finished with 14 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals. Senior Connor Patterson added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting with six rebounds, while sophomore Greg Pigg notched 11 first-half points off the bench.

Trevor Seibring led IWU with 15 points and nine rebounds and Bryce Dolan tallied 14.

The game was back and forth early with four lead changes and five ties inside the first seven minutes. Wojcik's jumper at the 13:06 mark of the half gave the Raiders the lead for good at 14-13. The Titans held close until MSOE pulled away by closing the first half on a 14-3 run. With the burst, the home team managed to turn a 34-32 advantage with 5:34 remaining in the frame into a 48-35 lead at the break.

Wojcik and Pigg led the charge in the first half, hitting on a combined 10-of-12 from the field with six 3-pointers and 26 points. As a team, the Raiders shot 64.5 percent and an 8-of-12 clip from beyond the arc.

In the second half, MSOE did not relent. The tenacious Red & White defense limited Illinois Wesleyan to just one field goal in a 7:27 span as the lead continued. The peak came at the 1:50 mark when Patterson finished off a three-point play at the free throw line to make it 81-56.

The Raiders shot 59.6 percent from the field, including 10-for-20 on three-point attempts, and committed just eight turnovers. Defensively, they held the Titans over 18 points below their season average as they converted 17 IWU turnovers into 24 points.

The Titans entered the day receiving votes in the national poll and own a pair of wins over teams currently ranked in the top 25 this season. This marks a big win for the Red & White, as Illinois Wesleyan has advanced to six-straight NCAA Tournaments.

MSOE returns to the court Saturday, hosting Concordia Chicago.
