Raiders' Hot-Shooting Trumped By CUW Defense

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball shot over 60 percent from the field for the second time this season, but dropped a tightly-played contest with Concordia Wisconsin 78-74 Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (12-11, 9-9 NACC) and Falcons (15-9, 13-6 NACC) had 17 lead changes in the game, including 12 in the second half, but the visitors' pressure defense outdid hot shooting on the night.

Junior Connor Patterson set a school record by shooting 11-for-11 in the game on his way to 25 points. Junior Austin Stueck scored 20 points and sophomore Collin Seubert added 12.

Eric Kittel scored a game-high 26 for CUW, while Bradley Pinsen finished with 15.

Behind Patterson, MSOE shot 61.7 percent in the game, but committed 20 turnovers in the game. Concordia shot 49.2 percent and turned the ball over just seven times in the game.

The Raiders trailed by one at halftime, but hit their first four shots of the second half to take a 44-38 lead. The Falcons bounced back with a 12-3 run, before the game settled into a back-and-forth battle down the stretch.

Stueck gave his team a 69-68 with a pair of free throws, but Kittel answered with five straight points to make it a two-possession game. Senior Nathan Verdun made it 73-71, but a Red & White turnover in the final minute forced it to foul the rest of regulation.

MSOE did not handle the Falcon pressure well in the opening half. It shot 71.4 percent from the field, but headed into halftime trailing 36-35. CUW shot 43.8 percent, but forged a 13-2 advantage in turnovers.

Patterson led the Red & White charge in the opening half with 18 points, while Kittel scored 14 of Concordia's final 16 points of the half to head into intermission with 16.

Patterson broke Jamel Sabree's program single-game record for field goal percentage in a game. Sabree had gone 10-for-11 from the field (.909) twice in his career. Patterson is also the third player in NCAA Division III to make 11-or-more in a game without a miss this season.

The Raiders return to the court Saturday, hosting Dominican.
