Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team scored 52 first-half points and led 52-28 at halftime in rolling to a 69-50 victory over Edgewood Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (16-5, 12-4 NACC) made 16 of their first 20 shot attempts in building an early 26-point lead on the Eagles (9-12, 8-8 NACC) and never looked back.
MSOE's 16 wins this season are one off its school record. The Red & White will look to tie the record when it returns to the court Saturday at Benedictine.
Junior Megan Kroll scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds in the game, while sophomore Shaylan Reardon added 16 points. Senior Marly Trier scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Bre Strong chipped in eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Courtney Spangled led Edgewood with 12 points. Mariah Hill had 10.
The Raiders clicked on both ends of the court in the first half, rattling off an extended 39-11 run to open a 26-point lead. They turned an early 4-2 deficit into a 41-15 lead. Offensively, MSOE shot 80 percent to start the game, making for of its first five 3-point attempts. At the other end of the court, Edgewood was held without a field goal for a nearly seven-minute stretch.
For the half, the Raiders shot 69 percent as Kroll scored 17 of her points in the first half and they took a 52-28 lead into halftime. Meanwhile, the Eagles were limited to 32.1 percent shooting.
Edgewood opened the second half on a 15-5 run to pull within 14 at 57-43. MSOE answered with a quick 6-1 run to push its lead back up to 19.
The Raiders cooled off in the second half to finish the game at 44.4 percent, but their defense held up and forced EC to shoot just 29.7 percent in the game.
