Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team scored one run and had eight hits over two games in falling to first-place Aurora in two games, 10-0 and 10-1, Saturday afternoon at MSOE Athletic Field.
The Raiders (10-16, 3-9 NACC) allowed the Spartans (19-3, 12-0 NACC) to score in all 10 innings played on the day on their way to extending their winning streak to 14 games.
Freshman Laryn Brinkman had three hits on the day, while both she and freshman Caitlyn Moran led the way with a pair of hits in game two.
Aurora got the day off to a big start, taking advantage of a first-inning Raider error to score three unearned runs in game one. The visitors then scored two runs in each of the next two innings. After extending its lead to 8-0 with a single run in the fourth, AU closed out the game with two more runs in the fifth.
Moran (1-1) got the start in the circle and allowed four earned runs over 2.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and one walk. Sophomore Callie Wightman closed out the game with 2.1 innings of work, allowing three hits, three runs and striking out one.
For Aurora, Vanessa Hartzell pitched a complete game. She allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
In game two, sophomore Shannon Curtis (6-10) nearly escaped the first inning unscathed, but back-to-back walks loaded the bases and forced in a run to stake the Spartans to a 1-0 lead.
After the Raiders loaded the bases in their half of the first inning, but left them stranded, Aurora broke open the game with five runs in the second inning and never looked back. The first five AU batters of the frame reached base and came around to score.
Curtis went three innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and four walks. She struck out four in the start. Wightman, once again, closed out the game. She tossed the final two innings, allowing three hits, two runs and struck out two.
The Raiders will look to regain their winning ways when they return to the diamond Sunday, hosting Benedictine in a doubleheader starting at noon.
