Box Score 2 RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Sophomore Shannon Curtis did not allow an earned run in game two and the MSOE softball team conceded six unearned runs in the opener in falling to Concordia Chicago twice at CUC Softball Field.
The Raiders (12-20, 3-13 NACC) committed four errors in a 9-1, five-inning loss in game one. Then, the Cougars (17-14, 13-3 NACC) capitalized on just one miscue for both runs in a 2-0 result in the second game.
Curtis (7-12) went the distance in game two, working around eight hits and two walks, while striking out a pair.
All of the home team's offense was limited to a two-run third inning. A lead-off error proved to be MSOE's downfall. That hitter came around to score the first run and the second scored after what should have been the third out.
The Raiders put runners in scoring position just twice in the game, including loading the bases with two outs in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, a ground out to second base put an end to that late rally.
In the opener, the Cougars struck in each of the five innings on their way to a run rule-shortened game. Freshman Hannah Wassmann hit a home run in the fifth inning to pull the Red & White, but Meghan Johnson responded in kind in the bottom half of the frame to end the game with one out in the fifth.
Freshman Caitlyn Moran (1-2) threw a complete game, but was on the hook for six unearned runs. She struck out two in the game.
The Raiders return to the field at home Sunday, hosting Marian in a doubleheader starting at noon.
