Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team overcame a 6-0 deficit to force extra innings, but could not hold off Marian in a 9-7 loss Monday afternoon at MSOE Athletic Field.
The Raiders (13-25, 4-18 NACC) tied the score in the seventh inning, but the Sabres (14-24, 8-14 NACC) struck for three runs in the eighth for the win.
The teams also completed their first game from the doubleheader begun Friday and suspended due to rain. Marian led 17-7 with two outs in the ninth inning. When play resumed, the Raiders rallied for one run, but that was as close as they'd get.
Monday's game was scoreless through three innings before MU struck first with a three-run triple in the fourth inning. The visitors added three more runs in the fifth before MSOE got on the board in the bottom half of the frame.
The Raiders capitalized on three errors in the inning. Sophomore Kailey Smith had an RBI double in the inning and scored on the second of back-to-back wild pitches to make it 6-4.
In the sixth, senior Mikala Wendt plated a run on a suicide squeeze and freshman Hannah Wassmann tied the game in the seventh with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. After a walk to reload the bases, Marian escaped with a strikeout and ground out.
The Sabres then opened the eighth inning with back-to-back hits in their way to three runs in the frame. MSOE would pull back a two-out score in the bottom of the inning, but get no closer.
Freshman Alex Cook and junior Lauren Boyle had two hits apiece for the Red & White.
