Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball fell to No. 4 Benedictine 67-52 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (9-8, 6-6 NACC) were within three points in the second half, but endured a stretch of 9:25 without a field goal, allowing the Eagles (18-0, 13-0 NACC) to pull away.
Senior Austin Stueck led MSOE with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Freshman Max Wojcik was the only other player in double-figures for the Red & White, scoring 13 and making all three of his three-point attempts.
Lucas Johnson shot 10-for-11 from the field to pace BenU with 21 points and 14 rebounds. John Dodson scored 16 points and Michael Blaszczyk chipped in 10.
The Raiders led briefly in the beginning of the game before the Eagles started to pull away. But, each time the visitors did pull away, MSOE crawled back within a single possession. Unfortunately, it was unable to get over the hump and went into halftime trailing 37-31.
MSOE then shot just 26.1 percent from the field in the second half. Senior Connor Patterson converted a three-point play at the 18:41 mark of the second half to make it 37-34. The Raiders would not make another field goal until a Wojcik jumper at 8:23 to pull the team within nine.
Benedictine went through a cold stretch of its own, not hitting a field goal for 6:25, but was able to get going again and built its lead as high as 20 at 67-47 with 2:05 to play.
The Raiders finished the game shooting 33.3 percent, including 4-of-14 on three-point tries. BenU shot 50 percent on the day, but struggled from three-point range (5-for-19) and the free throw line (6-for-16). The Eagles held a 45-32 rebounding edge, but the Red & White forced its ranked foes into three 19 turnovers and held them to a season-low 67 points.
MSOE returns to the floor Tuesday, hosting Edgewood.
