Patterson's Big Night Sends Raiders Past Edgewood

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Senior Connor Patterson scored a game-high 25 points, including No. 1,000 for his career, to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to a 97-73 win over Edgewood Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (10-8, 7-6 NACC) led the Eagles (2-16, 2-11 NACC) by just one point at halftime, but went on a late 18-2 run to pull away and remove all doubt in the outcome.

Patterson was an efficient 9-of-10 from the field, adding seven rebounds. Senior Austin Stueck finished with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and five assists. Juniors Collin Seubert and Alex Darville also scored in double-figures, as Seubert scored 14 and Darville 11.

Spencer Barnes knocked down five 3-pointers in the game to finish with a team-high 23 points for Edgewood. Sy Staver added 16 points and both players notched five assists. McClain Steffens had 12 and Tyler Westrick scored 11 off the bench.

Both teams came out of the gates firing, combing on 91 first-half points as MSOE went into halftime leading 46-45. The Raiders shot 66.7 percent for the half, hitting on 11-of-13 to start the game and jumping out to a 17-5 lead. The Eagles got back in the game by heating up from downtown. They buried 10-of-20 from three-point range in the half to briefly pull into the lead and keep the game within one possession.

While EC was working from outside, Patterson was working on the inside for the Red & White. He shot 7-of-8 in the frame for 18 points, netting his 1,000th career point on a layup with 2:02 remaining in the half. He's the 14th player in school history to 1,000 points and the first since Stueck reached 1,000 last season.

After halftime, the MSOE defense forced the Eagles inside and continued to roll on offense. The home team slowly pulled away in the early goings of the second half, but an 11-0 run pushed its lead to 19 at 75-56. Edgewood responded with an 8-1 run, but the Raiders then countered with 18-straight points to open a 28-point lead at 94-66 with 3:02 remaining.

The Red & White shot well across the board, finishing at 53.2 percent from the field, 11-of-23 from three-point range and 20-for-25 at the free throw line. It held a decisive 43-27 rebounding advantage and turned the ball over just seven times, tied for the second-fewest in a game in school history.

Edgewood cooled off in the second half, finishing at 42.9 percent shooting for the game. The Eagles were just 2-of-9 from three-point range in the second half and finished 12-of-29 for the game.

In addition to Patterson's milestone, Stueck also became the second-leading scorer in NACC history, surpassing Ben Wisniewski of Edgewood (2008-12) with 1,723 career points.

The Raiders return to the floor Saturday, playing at Rockford.
