Box Score MILWAUKEE – The No. 14 MSOE hockey team surrendered four goals in the second period in falling to No. 13 Marian, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (12-7, 7-7 NCHA) suffered a weekend sweep at the hands of the Sabres (13-5-3, 11-4-1 NCHA) after a loss by the same score Friday.
The MSOE defense withstood a 13-4 shot deficit in the opening period to keep the game scoreless, but could not carry that over into the second half.
Devin Stuermer scored three goals and assisted on the fourth for Marian in the decisive second period. He opened the scoring at the 3:40 mark and again at 7:36. He assisted on his team's third goal at 18:08 and made it 4-0 when he completed his hat trick just 49 seconds later.
Sophomore Patrick Dwyer netted a consolation goal for the Raiders in the third period, forcing a turnover at center ice and finishing a breakaway at 10:31 of the final frame.
Marian finished with a 38-17 shot advantage and converted on 1-of-5 power plays.
Senior Nick Kohn made the start for MSOE and stopped 22 shots in two periods of action. Junior Austin Campbell closed out the game with 12 saves in a scoreless third period. Mike Baldwin made 16 saves in the game for MU.
The Raiders will look to return to their winning ways next weekend, hosting Lawrence in the first game of home-and-home series on Friday.
