Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – Junior Holly Denfeld scored 26 points and surpassed 1,000 points for her career in leading the MSOE women's basketball team to a 74-70 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday evening at Buuck Field House.
The Raiders (8-4, 6-1 NACC) extended their school-record winning streak to eight games by downing the Falcons (8-3, 5-2 NACC) in the second-straight meeting.
Denfeld shot 10-of-17 from the field and added nine rebounds on the night. She entered the game with 999 career points and became the ninth member of the program's 1,000-point club with a layup 2:41 into the game.
MSOE put three other players in double-figures, as junior Lizzy Hilby scored 17, junior Margaret Pugh 12 and senior Megan Kroll 11. Kroll added six assists and four steals in the game.
Megan Coenen led CUW with 14 points. Katelyn Sewall added 11 off the bench.
The Falcons overcame a late six-point lead to tie the game at 70-70 with 1:04 to play in the game. Pugh answered with a put-back layup 24 seconds later to give the Raiders the lead for good. Denfeld then grabbed a defensive rebound on the other end of the court, was fouled and sank a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining to ice the game.
The game was tight throughout, with the teams never more than six points apart. Three of the four quarters were separated by just one point, while the Raiders were able to get some traction in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons 19-15.
Concordia led 40-37 after a basket 21 seconds into the third frame, but the Red & White responded with a 12-4 run to take a 49-44 lead. The home team would eventually tie the game at 60-60 early in the fourth quarter, and the game was tied again at 62-62. MSOE then got a three-point play from Hilby and Pugh hit the Raiders' only three-pointer in the game just over 90 seconds later to give them a game-high 70-64 lead.
The Raiders shot 54.4 percent from the field and committed just 14 turnovers in an efficient offensive performance. CUW shot 42.9 percent in the game, including 4-of-15 on three-point attempts. Both teams worked the ball inside, with the Red & White holding a 44-42 advantage on points in the paint.
MSOE will look to continue its winning ways at Aurora Saturday.
