Box Score AURORA, Ill. – The MSOE men's basketball team took a 10-point lead into halftime, but could not hold off a potent Aurora offense in falling 105-99 Saturday afternoon at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Raiders (7-5, 4-3 NACC) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Spartans (10-3, 6-2 NACC) despite a career-high 38 points from senior Austin Stueck.
Stueck finished an efficient 14-of-24 from the field, draining seven 3-pointers to go with seven rebounds, seven assists and no turnovers. His seven treys are the most by an MSOE player since Jan. 23, 1995.
Three other players scored in double-figures as junior Collin Seubert scored 17 points, senior Garrison Glowniak had 10 and sophomore Greg Pigg tallied 11 points off the bench.
All five Aurora starters scored in double-digits, led by Tyler Hall's 27 points and 23 from Nick Kladis. Chris Fritsch had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Jovon Griffin notched 13 points and Kalmon Stokes had 11.
The Raiders led 49-39 at halftime, having shot 58.1 percent from the field in the half. More importantly, they limited the Spartans to just 39.4 percent shooting.
A 9-2 run for AU early in the second half cut into the Red & White advantage, as the home team then began to gradually pull even. The score would eventually be tied at 62-62, with MSOE's last lead at 74-72 with 8:48 to play in the game.
Back-to-back three's and a layup gave Aurora a quick 8-0 run to take the lead for good. Its lead peaked at eight points, but the Raiders looked to rally late. Seubert converted a three-point play to make it a two-point game at 101-99 with 15 seconds to play, but the team's final two shots were off the mark and the Spartans hit four-straight free throws to ice the game.
MSOE posted an efficient shooting day across the board, hitting on 52.2 percent from the field, 15-for-33 (.455) from three-point range and 12-for-15 at the free throw line. Hot shooting by AU in the second half, brought its game figure to 50.8 percent. The home team did get to the free throw line 36 times in the game, converting 29 for an 80.6 percent clip.
