Box Score MADISON, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's soccer team prevailed from a battle of the NACC's last two undefeated teams with a decisive 3-0 victory over Edgewood Wednesday evening at Breese Stevens Field.
The Raiders (10-3-1, 5-0 NACC) outshot the Eagles (10-2, 6-1 NACC), 20-5, and snapped their seven-game winning streak.
Seniors Caitlin Liddiard and Sara Travia each scored in the second half to put the game out of reach, while the winning goal went down as an own goal in the 23rd minute. The own goal was initially attributed to Travia.
Despite capitalizing on an own goal by the home side, the score was deserved by the Red & White. It set the tempo in the opening half with an 8-1 shot advantage and six shots on goal.
MSOE went back to work after halftime, doubling its advantage in the 70th minute. Senior Aly Loepfe saw her initial shot blocked, but Liddiard was there to put the ball in the net to make it 2-0.
Travia made it back-to-back goals in a span of just 4:08, finishing off a breakaway in the 74th minute for an insurance goal.
In addition to a complete offensive performance, the Raiders also put forth a stout defensive effort by limiting the home side to just the five shots and three on goal. Junior Mary McFee stopped all three of those shots for her third solo shutout of the season.
Sabelle Seabrook kept the Eagles in the game making saves on 11 of MSOE's 14 shots on goal. Edgewood had allowed just one goal in six league games entering the night and its three goals allowed is tied for the most it has allowed in a game this season.
In addition to being the NACC's last two remaining unbeaten teams, both squads are also ranked in the NSCAA regional poll, with the Raiders No. 6 and Edgewood at No. 8.
MSOE will look to continue its league run Saturday at Benedictine. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
