Stueck Lifts Raiders to NACC Championship Game

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. – Senior Austin Stueck hit a school-record 10 three-pointers on his way to a career-high 42 points to lead the MSOE men's basketball team into the NACC Championship game with a 100-96 victory over Aurora in the semifinals Friday evening at Thornton Gymnasium.

The No. 6-seed Raiders (15-12) overcame a 12-point deficit to take down the No. 2 Spartans (20-6) for their first trip to a conference title game since winning the Lake Michigan Conference Championship in 2003. MSOE will play at top-seeded and No. 2 Benedictine Sunday at 2 p.m.

Stueck scored the most points by a Raider since Brian Guerts scored 48 Feb. 11, 1991. His 10 three-pointers broke the school record of nine on three different occasions. He shot 15-of-24 on the night, making his 10 three's on just 12 attempts. His 42 points and 10 threes are also a NACC Tournament record, while the 10 treys tied the overall league mark.

Senior Connor Patterson and junior Collin Seubert added 17 points each.

Nick Kladis scored 29 points to lead Aurora. Kalmon Stokes tallied 19 and Tyler Hall finished with 18.

The Spartans led by 12 twice in the game, scoring the first 12 points of the game and again on a Kladis three-pointer with 11:25 remaining in the game to make it 73-61. Stueck started a 10-3 with an old-fashioned three-point play, capping it off with five-straight points to make it 76-71 just over two minutes later.

MSOE continued to hang with Aurora, pulling even with the home team at 86-86 on a pair of free throws from Seubert at the 5:07 mark. The Spartans responded with six-straight points, which Stueck cancelled out with back-to-back three-pointers.

Sophomore Greg Pigg gave the Raiders their first lead of the game with 2:07 to go with 2:07 remaining. After Hall tied the game up, Patterson put the Red & White ahead for good with a three-point play with 36 seconds remaining.

Seubert then pulled down a defensive rebound on the other end and converted a pair of free throws at 18 seconds to effectively ice the game. Hall would make a basket at 11 seconds, but senior Brent Radlinger hit a free throw to put the game out of reach.

The Raiders continued their run through the tournament with another hot-shooting night. They finished 49.3 percent from the field, including 15-of-28 on three-pointers, and went 15-for-19 at the free throw line. Aurora shot 51.9 percent in the game, hitting on 12-of-29 three-pointers, but got to the free throw line just six times (making four).
