Raiders Fall to #2 Benedictine in NACC Title Game

Box Score

LISLE, Ill. – Senior Austin Stueck scored 22 points in his final collegiate game, but it was not enough as the MSOE men's basketball team fell to No. 2-ranked Benedictine 83-57 in the NACC Championship Sunday afternoon at the Rice Center.

The Raiders (15-13) nearly overcame a 17-point first-half deficit, pulling within six in the second half, but could not catch the Eagles (27-0). BenU now gets the NACC's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Stueck had game-high scoring honors and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in the game. Senior Connor Patterson finished with 10 points and junior Collin Seubert added nine.

Michael Blaszczyk led Benedictine with 19 points. Lucas Johnson had 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Tahron Harvey finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

MSOE scored the first four points of the game, but when the Eagles got going they went on a quick 18-2 run to open an early 18-6 lead. The home team would pull ahead by as many as 17 in the first half and 37-24 at halftime.

In the second half, the Raiders started to cut into that deficit, pulling within seven for the first time in the half at 47-40 on a Seubert three-pointer. After back-to-back Benedictine baskets, freshman Max Wojcik hit a three-pointer and Stueck followed with a steal and fast-break layup to make it 51-45.

Once again, however, BenU pulled away with a 20-6 run to open a 71-51 lead with just over six minutes to play.

The Raiders shot just 30.3 percent in the game, hitting on 5-of-28 from three-point range. Benedictine shot 48.0 percent on the day, making just 3-of-23 three-point tries, but outscoring MSOE in the point 52-16.
