Box Score 2 BELOIT, Wisconsin – Senior Shannon Curtis threw a three-hit shutout in game one and the MSOE softball team swept Beloit in a doubleheader 5-0 and 11-6 Wednesday afternoon at Strong Complex Field.
The Raiders (9-5) used a five-run inning to down the Buccaneers (2-14) in the opener, then pulled away in game two with a late six-run frame. The second game was called after six innings due to darkness.
Curtis (5-3) was dominant in the opener, striking out eight hitters and scattering four base runners throughout the game. The defense backed her up, eliminating two of those runners on a caught stealing and pick off.
At the plate, MSOE did its damage with a five-run second inning. Sophomore Emma Megal led off with a walk and got to third with a stolen base and wild pitch. She then scored on a fielder's choice. Five-straight hitters then reached with two outs.
Freshman Kiersti Davis and sophomore Emily Snow had back-to-back RBI singles in the frame and Raider base runners capitalized on a pair of wild pitches to score two more runs.
Davis had two hits of MSOE's five hits in the game.
In the second game, the Raiders scored in each of the first four innings, with single runs in the first two innings, two runs in the third, and another single run in the fourth. Davis drove in runs in the first and fourth innings while freshman Kim White and Snow and Megal each posted RBIs to put them ahead 5-0.
The Bucs would get back into the game, pulling back a pair of runs in their half of the fourth inning and tying the game with a three-run fifth inning.
MSOE then pulled away with six runs in the sixth inning to take the game. The team led off with three-straight doubles to plate the first two runs, then capitalized on a wild pitch to score a third. Megal then had a two-run single and another wild pitch when Megal was on third made it 11-5.
Beloit would score once in the bottom of the sixth before the game was called due to darkness.
Moran went 3-for-3 for her third three-hit game over the last four contests. Megal and sophomore Julia Marsh had two hits each.
Four different players took their turn in the circle for the Red & White. Sophomore Liz Gale got the start and went 4.0 innings, allowing a pair of runs. Senior Callie Wightman (1-1) got the win with 1.0 inning of work with BC capitalizing on an error for three unearned runs.
