Snow Hits Winning Home Run, Breaks NACC Record at CUC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RIVER FOREST, Illinois – Sophomore Emily Snow hit a 12th-inning home run to win game one and set a league record by reaching base in her 35th-straight game as the MSOE softball team split a doubleheader against Concordia Chicago Friday evening at CUC Softball Field.

The Raiders (26-12, 15-5 NACC) overcame a 5-2 deficit in the top of the seventh inning before Snow's home run sealed a 6-5 win in game one. The Cougars (23-15, 12-8 NACC) then rebounded for a 13-2 win in game two.

Snow singled in the first-inning single of game one to tie the NACC record for consecutive games at 34, then quickly broke the record in game two with a RBI double in the first inning. Her streak started with an 18-game hitting streak and her hits today extended her current hit streak to 16-straight games.

The Long Beach, California, native also tied a school record with her 57th hit of the season on her home run and broke it with her game-two double.

Concordia Chicago broke open a 2-2 game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead into MSOE's final at-bat.

Senior Kailey Smith reached on an error to lead off the inning and sophomore Julia Marsh followed with a single. After a fielder's choice, sophomore Emma Megal loaded the bases with a walk. Snow then followed with a two-run double. Freshman Amanda Manssen plated Megal with a ground out.

The teams then toiled through four scoreless innings before the decisive 12th inning. With two outs in the top half of the inning, Snow sent a 1-0 pitch to centerfield for her first home run of the season.

Senior Shannon Curtis (16-6) hurled all 12.0 innings for the win. She struck out 12 hitters against two walks, working around 12 hits and allowing three earned runs.

After the offense tied the game, Curtis buckled down and did not allow a hitter to reach safely over the final six innings of the game. In that time, she sent the Cougars down 1-2-3 in four innings and, after a lead-off error in the ninth, she retired the next three hitters in that inning as well.

Snow went 3-for-6 in the game with three RBIs. Manssen drove in two runs in the game, getting the Raiders on the board with another RBI ground out in the first inning. Megal homered in the third inning and finished with a pair of runs scored.

MSOE scored first in game two, as well. Megal drew a one-out walk, then scored on Snow's record-breaking double.

It was all CUC after that, as the home team scored multiple runs in each of its four at-bats in the game. That led to 13 unanswered runs before the Raiders tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Smith led off with a walk, moved up to second on a ground out, then scored on a Ziemba single.

Sophomore Liz Gale (6-4) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five runs in 1.1 innings

MSOE closes out the regular season Saturday, hosting Lakeland in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is at noon.
