Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wisconsin – The MSOE softball team saw its 11-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Concordia Wisconsin Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader at CUW Softball Field.
The Raiders (17-7, 6-2 NACC) dropped their first two league games of the season to the Falcons (18-6, 7-1 NACC) 3-0 in game one and 7-3 in game two.
A pair of errors in game one opened the door for CUW to tally three unearned runs in what amounted to a pitcher's duel.
Senior Shannon Curtis (10-4) suffered a hard-luck loss in the complete game. She scattered nine hits over 6.0 innings, striking out two, and was charged with three unearned runs. Meanwhile, Emily Brekke struck out nine over 7.0 innings and yielded just three hits for Concordia Wisconsin.
CUW took advantage of an errant throw in the second inning to get on the board with a single run. It then was able to convert an error in the fifth inning into a pair of insurance runs.
MSOE threatened in the fourth inning, loading the bases with one out after three-straight singles. Unfortunately, a fly out to right field was not deep enough to score a run and the inning ended with a pop out in foul territory.
The Raiders would put two more runners on in the fifth but could not push across a run across.
The Falcons struck for seven runs over the first two innings of game two, opening a quick 7-1 lead.
Freshman Kim White drove in the Red & White's first run of the game in the second inning. Junior Caitlyn Moran led off with a single and freshman Gabi Roderman followed with another base hit. Two batters later, White went the other way with a single to right field to plate Moran. Concordia Wisconsin was then able to cut down Roderman at the plate on the next play and escape with a flyout.
MSOE scored a run in the third inning on a double play, then pulled back another run in the third inning. An error, single, and walk loaded the bases with one out. The team was then able to capitalize on another error on a fielder's choice to score a run. Another double play put a damper on the rally and a ground out ended the inning.
The Raiders would then strand two runners on base in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Roderman, sophomore Emily Snow, and freshman Kiersti Davis each finished with two hits while Snow and White each reached three times with one and two walks, respectively.
Sophomore Liz Gale (4-2) got the start in the circle and hurled 1.2 innings in getting the decision. Moran tossed 2.0 innings and was charged with an unearned run while Curtis closed out the game with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
MSOE is back in action next weekend, hosting a doublehead
