UPDATE: MSOE forfeited the match due to use of an ineligible student-athlete

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jill Ruark tallied a hat trick to lead a dominating offensive performance for the MSOE women's soccer team in a 7-0 rout of Lakeland Wednesday night at Viets Field.

With the win, the Raiders (11-9, 8-3 NACC) clinched the No. 3 seed in the NACC Tournament and will host No. 6 Marian in the first round Saturday at Viets Field.

Ruark added an assist on the night as senior Shelby Namen, junior Jeray Riffel, and sophomore Gracie Horton also got on the scoresheet.

MSOE got off to a conservative start on offense, looking for openings in a conservative defensive unit. It got the opening break with some luck as freshman Veronica Mangio hit the cross bar with a shot off a loose ball in the penalty area. The rebound came straight down and was deflected across the line off the keeper's back.

The opening goal came in the 19th minute and it was just over four minutes later when Ruark added to the lead with the first of her two opening-half scores. This time it was nifty midfield passing from freshman Hailey Malloy and Mangio that set her free on a breakaway.

In the 34th minute, freshman Lyndie Krueger found Ruark with a diagonal ball, setting her classmate free on goal to make it 3-0.

Riffel got the offense going right after the break, scoring just 3:38 into the second half. The goal came off a corner from sophomore Gabby Hoffman, which Ruark sent into Riffel's path for the score. Ruark then completed her hat trick less in the 65th minute with help from freshman Sarah Ceurvorst.

The scoring kept coming just over four minutes later when freshman Nikki Ratts cut back a pass from the endline and found Horton right in front of the goal for a point-blank finish. Namen then finished the scoring with 22 seconds remaining off Ceurvorst's second assist of the night.

MSOE's junior keepers Abbie Lorenz and Allison Lessila split the game in goal. Lessila made the lone save of the night with a dynamite leaping stab on a shot targeting the upper 90.

Shots were a lopsided 39-2 in the Raiders' favor with 19 Red & White shots going on goal.
