MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball erased a 13-point halftime deficit but fell on a three-pointer with two seconds remaining in a 52-47 loss to Edgewood in the NACC Tournament First Round Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (16-10) tied the game with 18.5 seconds remaining on senior Tegan Miles' layup on for Sy Staver to hit a three-pointer with 2.0 seconds to go to push the Eagles (11-15) ahead for good.

Off the bench, sophomore Jake Gebert led the charge with 12 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Travis Ballard finished with nine second-half points and 11 total. Sophomore Matthew Kirmse added 10 points.

Jake Negus scored a game-high 25 points for Edgewood and hit on five 3-pointers. Staver finished with 11 points in the game.

MSOE limited the Eagles to just 18.8 percent shooting in the second half in whittling the deficit down from 31-18 at halftime. Negus hit an early three-pointer in the second half to make it 34-20 before the Red & White went to work.

The Raiders limited Edgewood to just 3-for-25 shooting to start the second half as it rattled off a 19-6 run made it a 40-39 game with 5:32 remaining in regulation.

EC responded with seven quick points before back-to-back three-point plays by Kirmse and junior Jason Palesse made it 47-45 heading into the final minute.

The final seconds were filled with drama as Edgewood turned the ball over with 25.9 seconds to go. MSOE opted for a quick bucket as Palesse drove the lane and dropped a pass for Miles in the post to lay the ball in and tie the score at 47-47 with 18.9 seconds to play. It was the only tie of the game.

Staver took the ensuing inbounds pass and held for one shot, hitting a three-pointer from the top of the key with 2.0 seconds on the clock. The referees then judged the Red & White's inbounds passed to have sailed out of bounds untouched, leading to a turnover, foul, and two free throws by Negus to clinch the game.

Edgewood advances in the NACC Tournament to play at No. 1 Aurora in the semifinals Friday.

MSOE shot 38.8 percent from the field in the game, overcoming a rough first half with a 46.2 percent clip in the second half. The team struggled from beyond the arc with just two made three-pointers in 15 attempts. Edgewood finished at just 29.5 percent shooting on the night but converted on 10-of-23 three-pointers.
