AUBURNDALE, Florida – Freshman Brad Demkovich threw a three-hit shutout in his collegiate debut to highlight a day of solid pitching for the MSOE baseball team as it swept Hanover in a pair of games 4-2 and 3-0 Tuesday in Florida.

The Raiders (2-3) allowed just one earned run to the Panthers (2-2) and scattered six hits over 14 innings on the day. They struck out 14 batters and walked just two.

Demkovich (1-0) struck out six and did not walk a batter over 7.0 innings of work in game two.

Freshman Julian Sonn went 3-for-4 and senior Jimmy Carrington collected two hits to drive the offense in support of Demkovich.

MSOE gave him a run early, striking for a single run in the first inning. Senior Ryan Newman drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then came around to score on Sonn's single. Two innings later, Sonn hit a one-out single and a hit batter moved him up to second base. Senior Garrett Willems then followed with a single up the middle to make it 2-0.

The final insurance run came in the sixth inning. Two walks and a fielder's choice placed a runner on third for Carrington, who singled in a run to extend the advantage to three runs.

That was all Demkovich would need, as he retired 16-straight batters between the second and seventh innings before a two-out single in the seventh.

In game one, freshman Mason LeBreck picked up a win in his college debut, as well, striking out five over 4.1 innings. He scattered three hits and two walks, allowing just one earned run. Sophomore Justin Celeski threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing just one base runner, to pick up the save.

Carrrington, sophomore Sam Swan, and junior Nick Gross collected two hits each while Swan and Gilpin each had two RBIs.

The Raiders put a pair of runners on in each of the first two innings but were unable to crack the scoreboard before breaking out with all four of their runs in the fourth inning.

Back-to-back singles and a hit batter loaded the bases in the frame for Gilpin, who plated a pair with a single. Gilpin then stole second and was one of two runs to score on Swan's single.

Hanover would respond with a pair of runs in the fifth inning to pull within 4-2 but that's as close as it would. Celeski came on and retired the final batters of the inning before closing out the game for his first collegiate save.

MSOE enjoys a day off on Wednesday before returning to the diamond Thursday with a single game against Neumann. First pitch is at 9 a.m. central time.
