Women's Tennis Shuts Out Lakeland in NACC First Round

MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Sammy Soeder and freshman Katie Clements won their singles matches to clinch a 5-0 victory for the MSOE women's tennis team over Lakeland in the NACC Tournament First Round Monday afternoon at Lake Park.

The third-seeded Raiders (11-9) swept the three doubles matches and scored a pair of quick singles victories to seal the result against the No. 6 Muskies (5-11). MSOE now advances to Saturday's semifinals in Madison where it will take on No. 2 Edgewood.

Soeder formed the No. 1 doubles partnership with senior Carly Grant and picked up an 8-3 victory, which was the same score for Clements and freshman Cierra Smith at No. 2. The Red & White rounded out the competition with an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles, courtesy of junior Cali Bonie and sophomore Kim Baffin.

In singles play, Soeder scored a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 and Clements won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 to give the Raiders their five points. The remaining matches were then abandoned.
