GLENDALE, Wis. – MSOE men's tennis got the NACC portion of their schedule started this afternoon, in what was supposed to be a doubleheader. Their match against Concordia-Chocago was postponed, but the altering of the schedule didn't phase the Raiders, as they shutout Dominican for their first conference win of the season.
It was apparent that the Red & White used the lessons they learned over the past few weeks to come into match as prepared as possible. The momentum was that was gained in last week's 9-0 win over Dubuque propelled them to another sweep against Dominican (2-2, 0-1 NACC). MSOE (4-7, 1-0 NACC) started off the afternoon by taking each doubles contest without breaking a sweat. The team of Luke Nelson (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and David Chon (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) took the No. 1 spot by the score of 8-1, and their teammates followed suit by winning the second and third matches by the final tallies of 8-2.
The Red & White's strong play continued over into singles competition, with each match ending in two sets. Chon and Peter Gudopp (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) were the most impressive in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, winning their respective matches by the scored of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Bryan Roob (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) also made quick work of his opponent, handily winning the match 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 hole. Freshman Alec Dam (Caledonia, Wis./Union Grove) came the closest to dropping a set to the Stars, seeing the first frame in his No. 4 match go into a tiebreak, but still came out on top 7-6, 6-0.
The Raiders will use this 9-0 victory to propel them into their next match, which takes place next Saturday at home against Edgewood at 10:00 am.
