MILWAUKEE – It was a day of experiments, as coach Kyle Knoblauch decided to switch things up in the doubleheader against Carroll (Wis.) this afternoon. Knoblauch emptied the benches and put players in different positions, making good use of the non-conference battle in this afternoon's split with the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
As you can tell by the title, the fourth inning played a pivotal role in determining the victor of each ballgame. In game one, it was MSOE (18-10, 8-2 NACC) that took a three-run lead into the inning, thanks to three strong innings from Emily Wiederholt (Cuba City, Wis. / Cuba City). Sarah Grossman (Palatine, Ill. / Palatine) came on in relief for the junior righthander and pitched four innings without allowing an earned run. The earned part of the last sentence is the keyword there. Unfortunately, an error at third base during Carroll's (20-11, 6-2 CCIW) fourth at-bat led to six unearned runs, giving them enough to cruise through the rest of the contest in route to the 6-3 win.

It was the Raiders turn in game two to use the middle frame to their advantage. The Red & White were down 4-3 thanks to the Pioneers scoring two runs in the top half, but that wouldn't deter them. The rally started with two out when Kara McKenna (Downer's Grove, Ill. / South) doubled to right center. Lauren Stefanczyk (Palmyra, Wis. / Palmyra-Eagle) singled to knock McKenna in, with Emily Snow (Long Beach, Calif. / Millikan) driving in Stefanczyk thanks to an error at shortstop. Lorrin Pondo (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook) picked up the win thanks to two solid relief innings, as the Raiders added three more insurance runs in the fifth to take the game 8-5.

RAIDER REMARKS
The Raiders will have one more non-conference doubleheader this season and will look to move to 12-6 against non-NACC opponents next week.

Freshman Sarah Grossman also recorded her first career save when she came in to get the last four outs of game two.
