Men's Basketball

Advantageous Raiders Win Sixth Straight

Box Score

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Full team efforts go a long way. Four of the five Raider starters scored in double digits as MSOE men's basketball closes out the month of January with their sixth straight victory, this time over the Regents of Rockford.

RESULTS
MSOE – 87
Rockford – 80

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (11-7, 8-5 NACC) were their efficient selves in the first half against Rockford (9-9, 7-6 NACC) tonight. The Raiders shot 55.2 percent in the first half, which includes the combined seven of ten performance from Michael Pitrof and Josh Herzog. The Red & White would go on to score 48 first period points, nine more than the Regents. Rockford didn't shoot poorly in the first, making 48.5 percent of their shots, but it was the 11 turnovers that MSOE took advantage of to run up the lead. The Regents outscored the Raiders by two points in the second half, but that would not do much damage to the hole that they were already in. However, they did make things interesting by going on a 7-0 run that gave them the slight one-point lead. The Raiders struggled from behind the arc in the last 20 minutes but made up for it by going 14-19 from the charity stripe. While Rockford had the game tied as late as 75-75, the Raiders held them scoreless for almost three and a half minutes to create the separating distance for yet another victory in the first month of the year.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Red & White were a very opportunistic bunch tonight, turning 22 Rockford turnovers into 28 points.
  • Josh Herzog tied his career high in points with 19 tonight against the Regents.
  • After 18 tonight, senior Matthew Kirmse is just four points away from taking over the sixth spot for most points scored in a Raider career.
