Raiders Extinguish Inferno With Second Half Comeback

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – It's been a fun week to be a MSOE women's basketball fan. First the Raiders knocked off Concordia Wisconsin for the just the fourth time in program history on Wednesday night. Then this afternoon, they stormed back from a 13-point halftime deficit to down the Alverno Inferno in front of a lively Hotchkin Arena crowd to win their eighth ballgame of the season during their home finale.

RESULTS
Alverno – 51
MSOE – 58

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (8-15, 7-10 NACC) did not get off to the best of starts in today's ballgame. The Raiders shot below 36 percent in each of the first two quarters and were faced with a 13-point hole to climb out of in the second half. Oh, but how the second half changed things. The Red & White shot 50 percent from the field in the third while they increased that number to 60 percent in the fourth. Meanwhile, Alverno (5-19, 5-14 NACC) went from scoring a total of 34 points in the first two frames combined to putting up just 17 in the second half of the contest. The Inferno shot close to 50 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but the Raiders defense cracked down once more to force that number to below 25 percent in the closing 20. A Red & White 14-0 run immeidately erased the deficit that they were facing, taking an Alverno 15 point lead back down to merely a single point. MSOE took control after that and never looked back. The Raiders came in well above most of their season averages by the end of the game, winning thanks to a 20 point swing on Saturday afternoon.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders were successful in transition in the contest, outscoring the Inferno 11-4 in fast break points.
  • It was a total team effort on the offensive end as the Raiders collected 13 assists on their 20 total baskets in the ballgame.
  • After today's performance, Amy Reiser is only 11 rebounds away from breaking the 200 mark this season.
