Raiders Battle But Drop Second Straight To Edgewood

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Playing the same team back-to-back definitely poses some challenges. However, it means that you get a second chance to right the wrongs from the night before. While the result was the same for MSOE women's basketball against Edgewood inside Hotchkin Arena on Saturday evening, there was flashes of brilliance and sure signs of growth in their ten-point loss.

RESULT
Edgewood – 58
MSOE RAIDERS – 48

HOW IT HAPPENED
After last nights contest, MSOE (0-3, 0-2 NACC North) knew they could not start the game with another first quarter where they let their opponents outscore them by 19. While it was not 19 points, the first quarter still put the Red & White in a tough spot. Edgewood (3-2, 2-0 NACC) went on a 10-0 in the first 3:13 and were up by that many tallies to start off the second quarter. The next frame was another story. The Eagles went from shooting 47.1 percent down to 18.2 while the Raiders went from 15.4 to 53.3 This allowed MSOE to climb back and eventually take the lead heading into the second half, but they were met with another lopsided quarter coming out of the locker room. The Raiders were still in it all the way until the end before they had to start fouling to try and keep the game within reach. The ballgame was much closer than the final score presumes but the Red and White still fell 58-48.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • Close ballgames are often won and lost within the paint. That certainly held true tonight as the Eagles were able to outpace the Raiders 30-14.
  • Kayla Barreto recorded a double-double tonight with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Amy Reiser was just one made basket away from snagging one for herself.
  • Turnovers were scarce compared to last nights totals. Both teams combined for just 18 total mistakes, 31 less from 24 hours prior.
