No. 17 MSOE Forced To Settle For Split In Mequon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MEQUON – Having dropped the first two games of a crucial series to Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday, No. 17 MSOE knew they had some work to do when play moved north to the Falcons home field. The Raiders made progress with a game one win but gave it right back as they split with CUW on the afternoon.

RESULTS
Game One
#17 MSOE RAIDERS – 3
#24 Concordia Wisconsin – 2

Game Two
#17 MSOE RAIDERS – 3
#24 Concordia Wisconsin – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lorrin Pondo was back on track in game one for No. 17 MSOE (25-5, 12-4 NACC North). She held No. 24 Concordia Wisconsin (25-5, 15-1 NACC North) scoreless for most of the contest, allowing her offense to give her some run support. Morgan Long homered in the second inning and Kara McKenna followed suit with the long ball in the third to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. Jenna Trewyn added to their total when she scored what would be a crucial run in the fifth with a single down the right field line. However, the Falcons had a comeback in them. They got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly and would make things interesting in their last at bats. A ground out brought CUW within one but Pondo got two straight batters to pop up with the tying run on base for the 3-2 win.

CUW wanted to take the series though and they got it with their performance and some help in game two. The Falcons scored the first four runs of the game, including two in an inning that should have been over before a single run could cross the plate. It wouldn't be until the top of the fourth that the Red & White could answer back with two of their own. Unfortunately, Concordia Wisconsin would get those runs back and then some in the fifth, plating four to increase their lead to six. Trewyn, who homered previously in the game, drove in her fourth RBI of the afternoon in the seventh but it was nowhere near enough as the Raiders fell by five.

WHO'S ON DECK
