HOW IT HAPPENED
Marian (22-18, 10-10 NACC North) grabbed the first lead of the afternoon during the opening inning of game one, knocking in three off a home run to left field. No. 24 MSOE (28-6, 15-5 NACC North) fought back however grabbing two of their own on a Celine Pacheco single and a Delaney Martino walk. The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the second with two more as Grace Salaja and Lauren Stefanczyk drove in the runs this time. The Sabres waited until the top of the fifth to answer back and took the lead with two more tallies. Then came the bottom of the sixth. The Red & White put up five runs on the scoreboard, including a Martino single that cleared the bases and scored her as well thanks to an error by the left fielder. It was smooth sailing in the seventh as the Raiders took home the 9-5 win.
The Raiders had to call on some late game heroics in game two as well. After Marian scored two in the top of the first, the Red & White answered back with a run in each of the next three innings. The Sabres took the lead back in the fourth with another pair of runs and all would be quiet until the bottom of the seventh. Down 4-3, MSOE threw on their rally caps and used a squeeze play to score a run off a Pacheco bunt to tie the game. Morgan Long was up next and poked a single into short center field that scored Jenna Trewyn and allowed the Raiders to walk off on senior day via a 5-4 victory.
