Raiders Softball Grabs Two Wins To Open Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – MSOE softball opened up their 2022 season this afternoon looking to defend their back-to-back NACC tournament titles and make a third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. The Raiders should be right in the hunt all season long based on their effort out on the diamond in a pair of wins on Tuesday afternoon outside of Orlando.

RESULTS
No. 11 MSOE RAIDERS – 3
(RV) Calvin – 0

St. Mary's (Minn.) – 4
No. 11 MSOE RAIDERS – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • vs. (RV) Calvin
    • No. 11  MSOE (2-0) struck first in their opening at-bats of the 2022 season. With runners on first and second and two out, Morgan Long singled to drive in a run before Jocelyn Clodi doubled to right field to plate two more.
    • The three runs in the first inning were all that Kennedy Lehn needed to claim her first victory in a Raiders uniform. She scattered two (RV) Calvin (1-2) hits across seven innings and struck out ten in a 3-0 win.
  • vs. St. Mary's (Minn.)
    • There was a little bit more drama in the second ballgame of the day. The Raiders faced off against St. Mary's (2-3) in game two of the afternoon and though the Red & White were in control most of the way, things weren't so easy in the latter frames.
    • MSOE got a run in each of the first two innings off singles from Lauren Stefanczyk and Kara McKenna while starter Sarah Grossman kept the Cardinal bats silent for five innings.
    • It was in the sixth frame however where the Raiders ran into some trouble. SMC was able to plate two runs to tie the game and they would do so again in the seventh to erase the one run lead provided to the Red & White via another Clodi single.
    • Down 4-3 and with two outs on the scoreboard, Morgan Long blasted a ball all the way to the fence in right center field to score a pair and seal the deal on a walk off winner.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders continue their spring break trip tomorrow morning when they take on New England College at 10:00 am eastern time followed by Moravian at 12:15 pm. Both games will take place in Clermont, Fla.
