Raiders Douse Inferno With Barrage Of Runs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – Rain once again wreaked havoc on the MSOE softball schedule, cancelling their game on Friday and forcing them to move today's home game against Alverno to enemy territory. The change of scenery didn't bother the Raiders one bit however as they scored 38 runs in two games to put out the Inferno on Saturday afternoon.

RESULTS
*Five Innings*
Alverno – 2
#19 MSOE Raiders – 14

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • The thumping that No. 19 MSOE (18-4, 11-3 NACC) gave Alverno (0-18, 0-14 NACC) in the opening contest of the day was just an appetizer before the main course came in game two. The Raiders plated 14 runs on eight hits and reached base via walk 12 times.
    • The big inning for the Raiders was the third when they plated six runs. A Grace Salaja walk plated Celine Pacheco, a Jenna Trewyn single scored two, Salaja scored on a wild pitch, Caitlyn Spreitzer contributed with an RBI single, and Pacheco reached on a fielder's choice that scored Spreitzer.
    • Kennedy Lehn was on top of things once again. The junior went all five and struck out 11 Inferno batters while giving up just two hits.
  • Game Two
    • For as good as the offense was in game one, it was almost literally twice as good in game two. The Red & White added 24 more runs to their afternoon total while giving up just the lone tally to Alverno.
    • The Raiders put together innings of seven, nine, three, and five runs while racking up 26 base knocks. All but one MSOE batter registered a hit, and six different players had at least two RBIs with Trewyn's five leading the pack.
    • Sarah Grossman went the distance in this one. Her lone hit given up also accounted for their lone run, a solo homer to right field. She struck out seven and didn't walk a batter for her sixth win of the season.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • While MSOE was technically the home team for these contests, the games were played at Alverno College due to poor conditions at the Raiders home ballpark.
  • Kara McKenna's home run in game two set a new Raiders record for homers in a career (9).
