Raiders Have No(No) Problem Sweeping Rockford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROCKFORD, Ill. – March 4th. That was the date of the last MSOE softball contest. If the results are going to be like this moving forward, then I'd say the wait was worth it. The Raiders breezed by Rockford on Tuesday afternoon and created history in the process in a doubleheader sweep on the road.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Rockford – 0

MSOE Raiders – 6
Rockford – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • When you don't give up a hit to the other team, you're probably going to win the ballgame more times than not. MSOE (7-1, 2-0 NACC) proved this theory correct when Kennedy Lehn threw a no hitter against Rockford (8-10, 0-6 NACC) to begin the afternoon.
    • The junior went all seven innings, and while she walked six batters, none ended up on first base via the batted ball. Lehn decided to pad her stat line even further by striking out 18 Regent batters.
    • One team who had busy bats was the Red & White. They accumulated 12 hits and had RBIs from Jenna Trewyn, Lauren Stefanczyk, and Faith Matta in the six run win.
  • Game Two
    • Rockford finally got a base hit at the very beginning of game two, but the overall outcome was the same. Sarah Grossman got the start and allowed just one run in 3.1 innings of work.
    • The big inning for the Red & White was the second where they pushed across four runs. Grace Salaja, Morgan Long, and Trewyn each had RBI singles and another crossed home plate via an error. Kara McKenna provided the other two MSOE runs with a blast over the centerfield fence in the top of the 7th.
    • Lehn finished off the game and got her second win of the day with 3.2 innings pitched. She struck out five and surrendered just two hits overall in the Raiders 6-2 victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • Kennedy Lehn's no hitter in game one was the eighth recorded in MSOE program history.
  • Kara McKenna's round tripper in game two gives her eight for her career. The senior needs just one more to become the MSOE home run queen.
