Raiders Close Out Trip to West Coast, Fall to Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The MSOE women's basketball team wrapped up their holiday trip to the west coast against the Chapman University, coming off a big win against University of Redlands.  Despite a big push from the Raiders coming out of the half, the Panthers were able to hold them off.
RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 52

Chapman University – 62

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (7-3, 2-0 NACC) found themselves chasing the lead from the jump, with Chapman (5-3) scoring the first basket and eventually extending their first quarter lead to seven points.  The Raiders would turn to Raekyiah Williams to generate some offense, and following a Williams basket and steal, Mahima Chokshi found herself at the free throw line tying the game up at 15-15.
  • The Panthers however were unaffected by the Raider comeback and would go on open the second quarter on a 15-2 run.  The Raiders would eventually get a couple shots to fall but would go into halftime trailing 37-22.
  • The Raiders would not go without a fight, as they came out of the break on a 16-4 run, kicked off by a layup from Chokshi.  Five different Raiders scored baskets on the big run, including Halena Hill who led the team with 12 points and the Raiders found themselves entering the fourth quarter trailing by only two points.
  • MSOE would take their first lead of the game at the 7:00 minute mark of the fourth quarter, with a Nina Perl three making it 47-46 in favor of the Raiders.  The Raiders would give the lead up on the next possession and after a couple untimely turnovers, found themselves out of time with a final score of 62-52
