Raiders Split to Finish Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The MSOE softball team capped off their time down in Florida, holding off a victory against the Husson University before a heartbreaking loss in extras to Calvin University.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Husson – 4

MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Calvin - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Husson
    • It was a rough start for Husson (1-1) as the first for MSOE (7-3) came as Morgan Long hit a double into right center field that forced an error from Eagles to bring in Jenna Trewyn for the first run of the game. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the second with a run of their own to tie the game at one each.
    • Things began to heat up for the Raiders in the third inning as Grace Salaja started the inning with walk and stole second to put her in scoring position for Faith Matta, who brought her home to take the lead. Long and Celine Pachero followed that with back-to-back RBIs to bring in runs, along with Caroline Fouras capping off the inning with RBI single as well to make the lead 5-1. The Eagles worked their way the rest of the game to cut into the lead, down just one run in the final frame. Sarah Grossman locked in to get the final three batters out to secure the win.
  • Calvin
    • It was a defensive clinic for the first four and half innings until Grace Brown pinched hit for the Raiders to put the first run of the game on the scoreboard with an RBI single to bring Lauren Stefanczyk in to score. It looked a clear win for the Raiders going into final frame, but a solo home run from Calvin (7-3) tied up the game to force extra innings.
    • After a scoreless eight, the Knights took a 3-2 lead on a groundout. Trewyn responded to extend the game in the bottom half to force a 10th inning. The Knights found a run of their own but lock down their defense to end the game with a 3-2 win over the Raiders.
