Falcons Fly By Raiders On Last Minute Goal

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's lacrosse welcomed rival Concordia Wisconsin to town while looking to punch their ticket to the postseason with a win. The Falcons had other plans though. A back and forth affair didn't fall in the Raiders favor as CUW came away with the one goal win at Viets Field on Wednesday.

RESULT
Concordia Wisconsin – 14
MSOE RAIDERS – 13

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fans at Viets Field were treated to an extremely exciting game, one that started with a MSOE (8-6, 5-2 NACC) goal to begin the scoring. Riley Woyatas scored the first of his four goals less than two minutes into the game, but it was matched by Concordia Wisconsin (11-4, 6-1 NACC) just moments later.
  • Woyatas made it 2-1 with eight and a half minutes left to go in the opening frame but CUW rallied to net five out of the next seven goals to take a 6-4 lead into halftime. The Falcons then increased their lead to three before the Raiders started their comeback.
  • Dawson Smith, Sam Thompson, Woyatas, and Kyle Hedblom all scored goals within 1:45 of each other to tie and eventually retake the lead and they'd go into the fourth quarter in a 10-10 stalemate.
  • Seven combined goals were scored in the final stanza, but unfortunately four of them belonged to Concordia. The Raiders scored two unanswered to tie the game with 1:36 remaining but a turnover proved to be costly and led to the game winning goal with 22 seconds left in the Raiders 14-13 loss.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • After winning back to back games against CUW in 2020 and 2021, the Raiders have fallen in the last two by a combined total of two tallies.

WHO'S ON DECK
