Raiders Fall in Regular Season Finale

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Rounding out the regular season tonight, the MSOE men's volleyball team began the night taking the first to the Dominican University Stars. Unfortunately, the Raiders eventually gave up the final three sets to lose to the Stars 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A neck & neck battle began immediately as through the halfway point, no one could declare momentum first. At the 14-13 mark, MSOE (10-14, 8-4 NACC) went on 6-1 run led by two kills from Carter Shavitz to claim the momentum and take a 20-14 lead. Dominican (11-10, 7-4 NACC) tried to cut their deficit immediately, but it proved to be too large as the Raiders held on for a 25-23 victory.
  • The Stars wanted to change the script quickly and jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the second set. The Raiders didn't allow any large runs the rest of the set, but also couldn't create any of their own either losing 25-20 to tie the match at two.
  • The Raiders showed signs of themselves from the first set as they didn't the Stars to jump out very far in the beginning of the set. While it was all tied at 16, the Stars dominated finishing on a 10-2 run to easily take the third 25-18. The Stars kept the momentum rolling to begin the fourth set, commanding to 14-4 lead. The Raiders worked their best to make comeback with the help of kills from Shavitz and Tommy Clausz, but the Stars held and won 25-22 to take a 3-1 victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The Raiders hit well throughout most of the match but ended their final only hitting .091.
  • The Stars are now 12-5 all-time against the Raiders, including six straight.
