Raiders Win Home Opener Behind Total Team Effort

MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's soccer opened up their 2023 home slate looking to rebound from a game they let slip away late on Saturday against Kalamazoo when they welcomed familiar foe Lake Forest to Viets Field.  Suffocating defense and a pair of second half goals allowed them to do just that, downing the Foresters by two in front of a lively Cream City crowd.

RESULT
Lake Forest – 1
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (2-0-1) got on the board first when Elizabeth Kuhn knocked one home in the 29th minute to make it 1-0 Raiders. The Red & White dominated the first half and outshot Lake Forest (0-2-1) 6-1 but couldn't light up the scoreboard again before halftime.
  • Whatever issues that were plaguing the Raiders offense in the opening 45 minutes were solved quickly once the second frame began. MSOE grew their lead to two with an unassisted game winning Grace Quinn goal at 50:18 before Kuhn helped out on Addison Spilman's first of the year at 52:25 to make it 3-0 Red & White.
  • The Foresters would not be shut out, adding a goal in the 64th minute, but they wouldn't convert on anything else either. The Raiders defense did a fantastic job shutting LFC down, limiting the road team to just two shots on goal in the 3-1 victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The win served as a nice bounce back for the Raiders, not only from their tie this past Saturday, but also the draw they had with Lake Forest last season. With the win, MSOE is now 7-0-1 in their last eight games against the Foresters dating back to 2015.
