RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Keeping everyone on their toes for the second straight day, the MSOE women's volleyball went down two sets to none to Dominican University and came back to win for the second straight day to move to .500 on the season.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Dominican - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After dropping the first two points, MSOE (10-10, 2-2 NACC) picked up the next four on Dominican (6-8, 0-3 NACC) errors and an ace from Morgan Borchardt. Essentially trading points past the 12-point mark, a 5-0 run from the Raiders after a kill from Ava Larson ran the momentum over their side. Leading 23-19 and hoping to gain the first set advantage, the Stars cashed in the points to tie it up and eventually steal the set 28-26.
- The Stars continued their momentum created in the second set, starting 8-4 eventually turning into 13-7. With Ana Knutson helping the Raiders keep their deficit manageable, zero runs from the offense gave the Stars the 25-17 win. The Raiders were determined to not let things go south as they took full advantage of Stars mistakes along with the help of Emma Schattschneider leading the offense. Up 17-15, a kill from her and Sydney Emineth along with an error from the Stars gave them their largest lead of the match so far 20-15. The Raiders were able to hold them off late to take the 25-21 to keep the match going.
- A kill from Samantha Johnson for first point of the fourth set started what proved to be the biggest run momentum wise for the Raiders as they took a lead as large as 12, 18-6. Emineth and Ashley Murphy helped aid the Raider offense with multiple kills late, along with two aces from Murphy as the Raiders forced a fifth set for the second straight day, winning 25-10. After trading the first three points, Murphy picked up two of the net four to take a 7-3 lead before the Stars tied things at eight. After trading all the way to the 11 point mark, back-to-back errors from the Stars allowed Murphy and Johnson to end things with kills of their own.
