Raiders Send the Falcons Packing with 5-3 Win

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's hockey team bested the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday evening, as the Raiders emerged victorious in the fiery, physical affair by a final score of 5-3.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 5

Concordia Wisconsin - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons (2-5-0, 1-3-0 NCHA) struck first, going up 1-0 on the Raiders (2-3-1, 2-2-0 NCHA) at the 16:59 mark of the first half, as CUW converted on their second power play opportunity of the evening.  Both sides would see plenty of special teams opportunities as the Falcons and Raiders combined for 18 penalties across the 60 minutes of play, including a game misconduct on each side.
  • In the second period, the Raiders were finally able to take the lead, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. Jacob Bosse found the back of the net on a powerplay just under five minutes into the frame, knotting things up at one goal apiece before Seth Bernard was assisted by Bosse and Carson Jones as the Red and White went up 2-1.  Not even 30 seconds later, Ethan Mann would extend the Raiders lead as he found the back of the net thanks to crisp passing from Eddie Shepler and Sam Schoenfeld.
  • After a CUW goal made it a 3-2 game coming down the stretch in the third, the Falcons would pull their goalie for the extra attacker but Charlie Skinner scored an impressive empty-net goal all the way from the opposite end, putting MSOE up 4-2 with just over three minutes left on the clock.  As the emotions of the game picked up, a scrum in goal led to several penalties for both teams, as the Falcons narrowed the deficit on the powerplay to 4-3.  The Raiders would not go quietly, as Brennan Dickey recorded and empty net goal with one second left on the clock to send the rivals packing back up I-43.
