Carthage College - 70
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (2-3, 0-0 NACC) trailed the Firebirds (4-1, 0-0 CCIW) by eight in the opening minutes of the contest until a layup from Aleah Butterbrodt kicked off a 12-3 Raiders run, capped off by a fastbreak jumper from Mahima Chokshi to put the Red and White in the lead for the first time with just over a minute to play in the first quarter. The Firebirds continued to try and pull away in the second half but strong shooting from the Raiders, including two late three pointers from Butterbrodt, kept things knotted up 31-31 at the half.
- In the third quarter, the Firebirds lived up to their name, catching fire from the field as they shot 66% from the field coming out of the halftime break, including a 16-0 run coming out of the halftime break as they kept the Raiders scoreless for almost six minutes. Carthage would push their lead to as much as 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Raiders fell to the regional rival despite three players with double-digit scoring figures.
