Carter Surpasses 1,000 Career Points as Raiders Stumble at Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The MSOE men's basketball had their second member of the season surpass the 1,000-career point mark in graduate student Donovan Carter. The Raiders made a major statement early on but couldn't hold off Coe College late.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 65

Coe - 69

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carter surpassed the milestone just six minutes in when he nailed a jumper to give MSOE (6-4, 2-2 NACC) an 8-7 lead. After the two traded baskets, the Raiders set the tone there, running away on a 12-0 run, with three-pointers nailed from Mason Dopirak and Jonathan Burroughs, for a 22-9 lead midway through. Coe (7-4, 1-2 American Rivers) couldn't cut their deficit to single digits, as it grew to as large as 17 when Joey Jendusa hit a jumper with two minutes left in the half, as the Raiders led 36-19 at the break.
  • The Raiders continued to press the gas out of the break, going up as large as 22 after Dopirak fed Ethan Johnson in the paint to lead 48-26 nearly five minutes in. Right near the midway point of the half, the Kohawks began to put together successful possessions all in a row, cutting down their deficit and tying the game at 58 with five minutes to play. Free throws from Dopirak helped keep the advantage on the side of the Red & White, but the Kohawks took their first lead since early in the first half with two and half minutes to play and didn't look back to steal it.
