MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team took on a non-conference opponent on Monday afternoon, as the Raiders hosted the Yellow Jackets of UW-Superior. The full-court press of the Yellow Jackets was too much for the Red and White to handle despite leading after the first quarter.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 49
Superior Yellow Jackets - 56
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (4-5, 1-1 NACC) scored the first basket of the game on a layup from Dani Mendez as the Yellow Jackets (4-7) responded with a layup of their own, with the teams would go back and forth trading the lead to start the contest. The Raiders Aleah Butterbrodt hit a three pointer to snatch the advantage, followed up by a fastbreak layup from Shelby Glodowski at the buzzer to give MSOE a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets would deploy their full-court press to kick-off the second quarter, going on a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead over the Raiders. Mahima Chokshi would keep the Raiders in striking distance, going toe to toe with UW-Superior as she would go on to finish with 21 points, shooting seven of twenty from the field.
- The Yellow Jackets would increase their lead to as much as seventeen points in the third quarter, as time began to run out on the Raiders who shot a combined 15.8% from three, as the long-range shots seemed to only find iron. The Red and White would slowly but surely chip away at the UW-Superior lead, as the Raiders countered the Yellow Jackets size with speed. Two free throws from Mendez would bring the deficit down to only five points, but the opposition would hit a back-breaking three with less than a minute to go as MSOE would fall 56-49, never quitting until the final buzzer.
