Women's Basketball Advances to Hasbrook Tournament Final

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The MSOE women's basketball team kicked off the first round of the 2024 Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament hosted by DePauw University on Sunday afternoon, with the Raiders advancing to the finals after besting Capital University in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (5-5, 1-1 NACC) dominated the Comets (8-1) in the first quarter, taking a 15-4 lead at the end of the frame as Mahima Chokshi continued to be a scoring machine, recording ten points in the first ten minutes.  Capital would chip away at the MSOE lead in the second quarter, going on a 15-7 run as the Raiders led by just four points with less than a minute to go in the half.  Ella Mensen would hit a key jumper with seven seconds left on the clock as MSOE protected a 28-22 lead at the half.
  • Lana Kerley and Dani Mendez led the charge coming out of the break for the Raiders in a low-scoring third quarter after back-to-back layups from the combo put MSOE up eight points early in the third.  Coming down the stretch in the fourth quarter, the Comets would shoot 50% from deep, while the Raiders went ice cold, allowing Capital to make it a one-possession game with 2:40 left to play.  The Comets would force overtime after tying the game up with ten seconds to go, as the Raiders got one last shot off in regulation, but the Elly Kohl three-pointer was just off.
  • After trading free throws to open the overtime period, Kerley would hit a clutch three to put the Raiders ahead.  Capital would have their chances but missed several key shots, including a couple free throws down the stretch, as the Raiders got back on track with a win over the previously undefeated Comets.  MSOE advances to the final of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament against DePauw University with the victory, as the Raiders get back to .500.
