MILWAUKEE – After allowing Fontbonne University to start hot, the MSOE men's volleyball team picked up their first home win of the season in four sets.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Fontbonne - 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (2-1, 0-0) lacked efficiency to begin in the first set, only hitting 0.065, relying on errors from Fontbonne (1-4, 0-0 MCVL) to stay in it. The Griffins pulled away on a 5-0 run to separate themselves from the Raiders midway through to take the first set 25-20. The Raiders turned it around in set two, hitting .324, thanks enlarge part to a hot run Ian Glashagel had late, totaling 10 kills. Tommy Clausz wrapped up set two with a kill to tie up the match with a 25-20 set two win.
- Set three truly was a back-and-forth affair to start, trading serves until the score tied at six. The Raiders were the first to make a mini run from there taking the next three, keeping that short lead throughout the set. Errors from the Griffins hurt themselves late, giving up multiple attacking errors, leading to the Raiders snagging another 25-20 set win.
- Eric Mueller kick started the Raiders in set four, leading them to start 5-1, capped off by an ace from Carter Shavitz. Mueller started another run where the Raiders exploded to a 14-6 lead, putting the Griffins in difficult territory. The Griffins eventually stopped the momentum the Raiders had created, but could only rattle off two points in a row the set of the set, allowing the Raiders to finish them off 25-18 to take the win.
