HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Park (3-4, 0-0 CCIW) used home-court advantage right away with a 3-1 run that extended up to a 9-5 lead. MSOE (3-1, 0-0 NACC) eventually settled in after a kill from Carter Shavitz to start a 5-1 run of their own to tie the set at 10. The two virtually went point for point the whole set from then on, but the Vikings committed errors late to give the Raiders the edge in set one 25-23.
- The Vikings turned things around the second set to take a 17-10 midway through. After an error from the Vikings on the serve, it seemed to go downhill for them with the Raiders exploding on a 7-0 run to make things interesting and tie up the set. Just when the Vikings thought they regrouped taking a 22-18 lead, Ian Glashagel coming off his hot night Thursday put a halt to that with a run to force extra points, to which Shavitz on back-to-back kills gave the Raiders the set win.
- The Raiders played the waiting game finding their time to strike in the third set. After three-straight errors from the Vikings, it looked to be their time as kills from Callan Harris and Glashagel catapulted them all the way up to a 24-17 lead. The Vikings in a last-ditch effort rattled off four straight points when the Raiders were on match point, but Matthew Schultz sealed it to finish off the sweep.
