Men's Basketball Pulls Off Comeback at Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Despite not leading until an extra five minutes were put onto the clock, the MSOE men's basketball team pulled off the comeback over Dominican University in a must-win matchup.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 91

Dominican - 88

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dominican (10-13, 7-9 NACC) wasn't afraid of an early start, as they exploded to a 7-0 lead two minutes before Jess Hartman got MSOE (11-12, 8-8 NACC) on the board with a three-pointer. The Stars, who nailed six first-half three-pointers, all of the sudden took a 15-point lead, extending up to as large as 19 with under nine minutes to play in the first half and seemed to feel comfortable. Donovan Carter driving in the lane for layups put the Raiders out the hole they found themselves in heading into the break, down just 46-40.
  • The Raiders found themselves down double-digits minutes into the second half until Hartman and Carter slowly brought them to within four. The Stars continued to stay comfortable up until a layup from Hartman and then Carson Cordelli connecting from three to go down just two with 1:45 remaining. Carter tied the game up for the first time since the opening tip and after the Stars hit two free throws of their own in hopes to put the Raiders away, Mason Dopirak answered with two of his own to force overtime tied at 80.
  • The Raiders took their first lead as Dopirak nailed the first shot of overtime with the Stars now having to chase. Carter continued to drive the lane to answer the Stars scores and it was Dopirak who in the final seconds, nailed three free-throws to complete the comeback.
